CANON CHARACTER INFORMATION

Character Name: Cyan Reyes
Canon: Original Character
Personality: Despite his appearance of a typical slacker teenager, Cyan is actually an intelligent and bright-eyed boy who longed to explore his new home all around him. Ensared with curiosity, he uses it to solve problems and find a solution to every situation. He can also be a bit of a snarker when it comes to awkward moments or anything that he witnesses that he is unable to make sense of.

As he previously lived in the Philippines, Cyan holds much curiosity regarding the American way life. Whether if it's visiting a landmark in Los Angeles or listening about America's founding, he does everything he can to learn everything to satisfy his curiosity. However, he also retains his love for his birth country in order to remind everyone regarding half of his heritage, though he sometimes go too far with his Filipino pride as such as blurting out Tagalog words in frustration and his habit of calling older people ate (sister) or kuya (brother).

Outside of his feelings for his heritage, he is very perceptive of the people he meets, often giving short insights as to who they are in his first impressions. Yet, he tries not to be blunt in his remarks to avoid hurting their feelings. He is also open-minded about nationality, race, skin color, religion, and sexuality as he believes that no one should have boundaries to their goals, especially with who they wish to be. However, his belief can be a double-edged sword to him, as he is terrible at lying and tends to become nervous during intense interrogations and questionings.

Despite Cyan’s optimism and his energetic nature, his Filipino-American heritage can be a source of his flaws as well. As he was a victim of racism in the past, Cyan can somewhat cautious to anyone, fearing that people won’t accept him due to his half ethnicity. He also has doubts about himself, mainly regarding that he not able to help anyone or that he is not a good friend, believing that they will dislike him because he's not entirely American or that he’s useless to them.

However, his flaws in dealing with racism aren’t limited to doubts and caution. Just seeing people mock him and his family with the typical Asian stereotypes and boast about American supremacy is enough to make Cyan's blood boil. In fact, his pride of his Filipino half of his nationality and his beliefs of diversity allow him to push forward in order to have a bright future for both Americans and the people with mixed nationalities.

AU INFORMATION

AU Character Name: Cyan Reyes
AU Backstory: Cyan Reyes is the son of a Filipino businessman, Eric Reyes and American video game designer, Whitney Reyes. Born and raised in the Philippines, he lived his whole life playing games with his siblings, Anne and Richard, and played MMO games in internet cafes after school. However, after learning of his father's American nationality through his stories, he grew very curious at the other side of his heritage and began dreaming of living in America.

In fact, that dream became a reality when his father was promoted to become a CEO to the video game company that his mother was working for, which resulted in the family to move to Los Angeles. Though he was sad to leave his friends behind, they managed to cheer him up and encouraged him to discover what America had in store for him.

However, his whole world changed when he started middle school. Unlike his previous school in Manila, students found him a little weird and strange due to his half-Filipino nationality. Not only that, he also became a victim of bullying as his tormentors mocked him for his Tagalog language and his curious nature. It didn't even help that his father was also the subject of rumors after taking his seat as the CEO of Hurricane Co.

When he entered high school, things got even worse when his home country became the subject of one of his history teacher’s lessons, which resulted in rumors being spread around the school about his Filipino home and living conditions, such as living amongst rats and dogs and eating dirt. However, as time passed, the rumors escalated to being about his sexuality and his people being barbarians, which increased his bullying and alienation from his peers. At this point, he started to doubt himself, believing that he would be never accepted into the American society because of his mixed nationality.

Eventually, Whitney was harassed by his history teacher during a parent-teacher conference which led to rumors about how Filipinos are prone to infidelity. This quickly destroyed any remaining remnants of his American dream as his family became a subject of a scandal case.

However, a glimmer of hope remained in the form of the Metaverse app installed into his phone and with it, he found himself in his teacher's Palace. There, he was horrified to learn that not only was the teacher was responsible for spreading those false rumors about him and his mother, but that he did it out of his own personal hatred of non-Americans and his personal lust for his mother. With the truth finally out, he ripped out his mask and awakened his Persona to change his teacher's heart.

While his teacher confessed everything and resigned from his job in disgrace, Cyan remained a victim of the corruption within LA. At this point, during his second year in high school, he teamed up with the Phantom Thieves, as he vowed to stop the cycle of racism and hate and push for a better future for anyone with different identities and origins.

Questions Sample Prompt:

0: The Fool asks - What is the biggest life change you have ever experienced?
"I think it's when I moved to Los Angeles after my Dad decided to move there to take his CEO position. My first years in America gave me good and bad memories, yet I feel they managed to help me open my eyes to the truth behind the American dream thing."

II: The Priestess asks - What do you consider to be an undeniable truth?
"Basically, the fact that obtaining peace is completely difficult and out of reach. I can blame corruption and greed for that."

III: The Empress asks - What are your hopes for the future?
"I'm hoping that everyone will accept us for who we really are regardless of our origins or our identities. That way, there will be no reason to quarrel over them."

VII: The Chariot asks - What is it that you refuse to lose in and why?
"If there's one thing I don't want to lose to is the people who label me and others like me as freaks and other racist epithets. Being different is not bad and those racist jerks keep on twisting the ideas of our ideologies and our culture. That's why I refuse to lose to the ones who keep trying to build walls between white people and people with mixed nationalities, different skin colors, religions, genders, and sexualities, residents of this country."

X: The Fortune asks - Do you believe in Destiny? Why, or why not?
"Destiny is a mixed subject for me, but I would not believe it. We have the power to create our own destinies and if we do, we can reach our desired futures and continue living this crazy, but a unique world."

XI: The Strength asks - How do you respond in the face of danger?
"I try to assess the situation before I jump in and save or fight anyone. It's slow, but I'm not the type to go Leeroy Jenkins just to save anyone. Although, I would try to rush in without a plan if there are no other options."

XIII: The Death asks - As you enter a new stage in your life, what do you wish to leave behind?
"I hoped to leave behind my doubts about the future and of my own identity. I am still scared that everyone else will never accept me because I'm not entirely like them, but I hope I can throw those doubts away for a bright future for both me and my family and friends."

XVIII: The Moon asks - What do you most fear in this world and why?
"The lack of diversity and the racism in this country I'm now living in. I've seen it for myself and trust me, it's not a pretty picture. Everyone is still judging others based on the colors of our skin and our views to this world. It is enough for certain people to make rumors about us and make us look like “inferiors”.”

XIX: The Sun asks - What in this world makes you happy and why?
"Other than my MMO friends, just the thoughts of my parents and my siblings is enough to make me smile. Especially my extended family, including Lola Ginny. They always help me out of my dark days and they are always there to support me when it comes to both my achievements and failures. You could say they are my own cheer squad."

XX: The Judgement asks - What is the hardest thing in your life you have had to accept and why?
"Just the reality that not everyone can accept you for who you really are. I tried to shrug it off like it was nothing. But when those rumors began to spread around me, I couldn’t escape the insults, the biased questions, or the bullying. All because of who I really was. Being judged because my Dad is a CEO of a video game company is enough, but being called out because I'm half-Filipino and not all American?"

[Cyan groans as he gritted his teeth and scratches his nape on his neck.]

"To be honest, I was curious about America because it's a melting pot for every country and unity, but the truth that racism still exists today, even in my school was a tough pill for me to swallow."
